Frank La Rocca’s Requiem for the Forgotten lifts prayers for the unseen—refugees, the unhoused, and all who bear silent burdens—through radiant choral expression. Drawing on Gregorian chant, sacred poetry, and the depth of liturgical tradition, La Rocca weaves ancient motifs into a contemporary setting that is timeless and profoundly moving. The work includes the powerful Hymn for Ukraine and concludes with an ethereal, unresolved Amen that invites quiet reflection.

The November 1 performance will be presented in concert format with additional works for All Saints and All Souls Day. The November 2 performance will take place in the context of a solemn Requiem Mass.

Two powerful works speak across centuries to themes of suffering, compassion, and renewal. Buxtehude’s Membra Jesu Nostri, a cycle of seven cantatas meditating on the crucified body of Christ, is one of the Baroque era’s most expressive masterpieces. Pulitzer Prize–winning composer Caroline Shaw responds with To the Hands, a modern reflection on human dignity and displacement.

The performances will feature continuo accompaniment by Alex Buiel.

Conducted by David Castillo Gocher and Krista Cornish Scott, The Little Match Girl Passion reimagines Hans Christian Andersen’s tale through the lens of Bach’s St. Matthew Passion. With spare textures and emotional intensity, Lang offers a searing meditation on suffering, compassion, and hope.
The program also includes Lang’s Just and Let Me Come In, companion works that reflect on intimacy, vulnerability, and human longing.
